Networking Through Your College Alumni Association. What Fun!

One of your greatest sources of client and partnership leads simply involves contacting, re-connecting and networking with old friends through your college alumini association. It is a wonderfully targeted means of re-establishing (or establishing, for the first time)some of the best pre-qualified prospects whom you might have let slip through the cracks. - Douglas Castle, Chairman, CEO, TNNWC Group, LLC.


Networking, Re-Connecting and Growing Business: Alumni Associations.

Dear Friends, Colleagues, Braintainers, Members of TNNWC, Adam J. Kovitz , Casual Readers (wearing smoking jackets and slippers), and Alumni of Stony Brook University and The Hofstra University Graduate School Of Business:

I have moved at least seven times since my graduation from college. No matter where I move, one of my two alumni associations will solicit a contribution to its student endowment fund to me at my currecnt address.

In fact, if your are either a long-lost relative or a mobster who just finished "serving his time," the way to find virtually any person in the world is by contacting his or her college alumni association. Even if your friend (or turncoat informant, formerly hired and wired) is is the US Federal Witness Protection Program ("WITSEC"), you can be certain the your best chance of finding your target (using this last term loosely) is through his or her college alumni association.
Nothing can keep these rapacious, guilt-inflicting trackers from finding the latest living address of its prey.

On a serious note, getting a guide to alumni, or calling up alumni affairs can often get you location of a particular individual or a list of individuals who are still somehow connected with unviersity affairs. Your advantage -- no matter whon you speak with, they are almost always wildly enthusiastic about the prospect of telling you what they've accomplished, or in finding out what you've accomplished. You have "automatic" common ground to talk about when you discuss the insane antics of your college recreation. When two alumni are re-united by telephone, often each of them walks into a) a private room, or b) outside of the current residence so that you may freely speak of old parties, pranks, dangerous sprees, your promiscuity and wild, crazy relationships (prior to your becoming sedated by maturity's reason) and secret longings for the past.

The bottom line is bittersweet - since you cannot escape the alumni associations who are tracking you (perhaps using GPS or implanted RFID or "super-chips"...no one will tell me), leverage them to access your old friends. The best part of it is that you start off with common memories and common ground. Admittedly, some of the stories might involve some embarrassing details, but hey...at least you lived to experience a few things.

Looking up old friends and acquaintances is always a fascinating exercise. Perhaps an old romance will be re-kindled; perhaps an old vendetta will be re-vived. But you'll never know until you try.

Do it. It is extraordinarily worthwhile. What a resource!
