Blog Audiences Versus Twitter Followers - The Divide

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

A well-written, frequently-posted, technical or "specific topic oriented" blog published by an expert is more likely to gain a growing group of loyal readers via email subscriptions, RSS feed subscriptions, and as a result of search engine results than by being a frequent-tweeter, or by having a beloved ("liked!") FaceBook page. The exception to this is in those cases of subject content specifically involving celebrities, gossip, sports, breaking news or sensationalism. Blogs tend to get built more slowly, but more solidly.

The Twitterers who garner the most followers the fastest are those generally categorized under one of the content types described in the preceding paragraph and:

1) Tend to be very interactive;

2) Tend to be oriented toward curious individuals (in their non-professional capacities) or to retail-oriented consumers;

3) Tend to be geared toward those aged from 21 to 42 years of age;

4) Tend to incorporate elements of shock, conspiracy or social/political/other causes;

5) Tend to be formatted in a way which lends itself to easy response or re-tweeting in order to "spread the news."

While the Twitter World and the Vertical Blogosphere are still quite complementary and mutually enhancing, the area of intersection in the populations they attract tends to be relatively small. The utility of Twitter to most Bloggers is to gain new subscribers -- the utility of Twitter, from a business perspective, is gain a large following for the advertising and promotional purposes; especially in those cases where the 'thing' to be ultimately sold is a relatively inexpensive, easily described product or service, either useful to consumers or to fledgling businesses.

Most bloggers see Twitter's principal function as that of a "net" or of a "funnel" to attract new readership.

The curious exception to the "Blog Reader or Twitter Follower? Division" is the world's population of ardent hobbyists, who become faithful blog readers (through the means described in the opening paragraph) and who also become Twitter Followers and active Twitter and Re-Tweet participants -- especially if the hobby involves changing technology or growing knowledge. The area of intersection in the populations they (the blogs and the Twitter groups) attract tends to be relatively large, as if merged into a club.

Twitter is a superb broadcast medium with a high level of recurrent visibility. But the greatest profits in Twitter campaigns (aside from sponsored tweets, general branding, or  simple mailing list -building) comes from their ability to "steer" prospective clients to blogs and websites where they can purchase products, services or obtain useful information.

If you want to acquire more loyal Twitter followers for either purpose, be certain that your topic focus of of broad interest, and that it is entertaining. Your Twitter credibility goes up if you frequently pepper your tweets with commentary or questions  which are pointed, personalized, and don't have hyperlinks. People (prospective followers) would like to think that you are speaking to them and not just selling to them.

Communication, Persuasion, Sales: Word-Weaving

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

In messaging, branding, buzzing, promotion, publicity, and in the closing of actual contracts or sales, Word Weaving is the ultimate critical art to master. Words are not to be dropped. Words are to be woven into an adventurous storybook tale ( we're all a bit childish) that leads our audience to our predetermined destination.

Don't speak in two dimensions. Words are to be woven into three dimensions so that they activate other senses, deeper and more compelling than simple intellect. Words should be compelling. Words should be leading. Words should be enriched with an irresistible call to action -- a sense of urgency. Words should touch the imagination...

Most of the best-scripted speeches and ad copy have one significant element in common: they make you see, feel , taste, touch, and smell a future so vividly that you simply must have it now. In sum, they bring the future into the present, for you to "pre-experience."

Here are several examples of word-weaving  from various  discussions and dialogues which I have either been a party to or to which I have been a witness (trying my best to hide my smile):

DO NOT SAY:
Wouldn't you like to buy one?

SAY:
Wouldn't you enjoy owning one?

DO NOT SAY:
Let's have a meeting about it.

SAY:
Why don't we make some time to explore this together?

DO NOT SAY:
You'll find some great tools here.

SAY:
You'll discover some amazingly useful tools here.

Your words should, as they are spoken, conjure up the image of an adventure with your role being not as a salesperson, a boss or a commander; no, you are merely a helpful guide or escort to keep your client (who should be treated as your respected friend) company on his or her journey.

More examples?

"Thank you for investing so much of your time with me."

"Let's review this offering ( a contract!) and discuss it together in detail."

"I am facing a  a challenging problem; it really has me perplexed -- I believe that you might be one of the only people with the imagination and creativity to help solve this mystery..."

Word-Weaving sends your audience, prospect or person of interest on an adventure, and it turns the mundane or threatening into a challenging, exciting quest (think of Don Quixote). With the artful use of word-weaving, the other person is never being pushed or coerced; he or she is being invited and compelled. And you are being a tour guide and companion, instead of a hawker.

You elevate yourself as well as the others listening to you when you use word-weaving. You become a host and they become guests. And that is as it should be.

Blog Rank and Authority: Get Yours Up - Proven Methods

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Blogs carry more credibility than websites. The keys to getting your professional or topical weblog publicized and more widely-read are incredibly simple, if you're serious about blogging for influence or advertising revenues. There are no "miracle cures," and there are no surprises -- just some genuine common sense and perseverance. The ultimate magic is still quality content. Save some money on miracle fixes and fancy machinery -- smarter search engines, trailing a bit behind Humanity (arguably) are looking for original quality content.

The Absolute And Proven Methods To Elevating Your Blog's Visibility And Credibility?

Here's the checklist, handed to you by Douglas E Castle (a conceited lout), TNNWC Management Consulting Services, and a blue-ribbon panel of unproclaimed (and self-proclaimed) blog-ranking authorities assembled by the staff (or is it staph?...hmm) of Mad Marketing Tactics!

Seriously - these absolutely work:
  • original (unique) content,
  • "personality",
  • writing style,
  • utility (as a reference or resource),
  • frequency of posting,
  • quality of posts and content,
  • optimized reader-friendly formatting (making your blog easier to navigate and to use),
  • high-power search engine optimization (SEO tricks involving metatags, keywords, sticky tools, growing a network of inbound links from high PR-ranked sources, using social media hooks to buzz your brand and existence, news releases, submission of your blog and its related RSS feeds to a tremendous number of directories, and other geekery and gadgetry), and
  • visual images (embedded pictures*, slideshows, and other audio-visual 'sensorial grabbers').
If you truly follow all of the pointers above, diligently and consistently, your blog will begin to soar. Blog Rank, a wonderful site and service, describes how the rankings and ratings systems work -- how they will quantitatively show the effects of your efforts.

    Blog Rank uses over 20 different factors to rank the blogs in any category. Some of the factors include:RSS membership, incoming links, Compete Alexa,and Technorati ranking, and social sites popularity [Learn more about our ranking logic]
    In summary, if you want the best metric results as used as "grading criteria" in Feed Rank, go back to the top of the page and attend to the qualitative work required to produce those results. It works, and it can easily work for you.

    p.s. A network of blogs is just like a virtual media empire. It is one of the best tools for promotion, publicity, branding, and, of course, Marketing. Build a high-quality network of blogs; you'll find that it's well worth the investment.

    Market Domination = Branding + Utility --- Getting There And Staying There.

    Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

    "To dominate a market and to remain firmly embedded there, it requires a combination of brilliant branding and product or service viability. Branding opens the doors, while demonstrated utility gets clients to purchase, register or sign on." - Douglas E Castle

    Marketing Success Defined

    Marketing Success: When your business' product or service 1) becomes a verb ("Let's Google him..."); b) becomes the categorical/ generic term - an EXEMPLAR - ("We need a Facebook-Friendly iPhone access application..."); or c) becomes integrated into ordinary conversation or commerce as a part of the process ("Send it by PayPal and then we'll Skype the client this evening...").

    Through the results emerging from a number of TNNWC Market Surveys and Polls, it has been determined that most every emerging entrepreneurial enterprise, or small business at a competitive crossroads would accept the above definition as being the culmination of a successful marketing effort.

    To dominate any industry, however, requires not only great branding (supported by brilliant buzzicology, news releases, advertising and the like) --- it requires that your company's product or service fill either a common need amongst a giant population (i.e. a horizontal field), or address a very specialized, technical need (i.e., vertical field) amongst a limited number of very wealthy recurring purchasers or long-term buyers in a monopolistic industry.

    Most emerging enterprises and small businesses prefer to target a share of a large and growing horizontal market.

    Point To Remember: With the exception of the high-end fashion or "conspicuous consumption" ("Veblen Effect") audiences, your brand will give you the audience and the opportunity to dominate; but it is your utility that will keep you in the game and ultimately make your name.

    Whatever it is that you choose to market, it should be seen by your audience as very useful (filling a need), reasonably simple to use (and to describe or explain) and as a necessity instead of an option.

    Faithfully,

    Douglas E Castle
