MEMES: Increase Backlinks And Traffic. "Heavenly Hashtagging"

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

This is a pertinent image of Dawkins and memesThis is a pertinent image of Dawkins and memes (Photo credit: Wikipedia)Your first question should be, "What, exactly, is a meme?" Your second question should be, "Could you give me several examples of memes?" And your third question should be "How can I utilize memes to build blog and website backlinks and increase traffic?"

We at The Mad Marketing Tactics Blog (we actually have a secret slogan, soon to be incorporated into a graphic meme which is... Get MAD... Get CRAZY... Get MOVING... Get ATTENTION

1) But what exactly is a MEME?

According to Wikipedia, a wonderful and underfunded source of information...

"An Internet meme is an idea that is propagated through the World Wide Web. The idea may take the form of a hyperlink, video, picture, website, hashtag, or just a word or phrase, such as intentionally misspelling the word "more" as "moar" or "the" as "teh".

The meme may spread from person to person via social networks, blogs, direct email, news sources, or other web-based services. An Internet meme may stay the same or may evolve over time, by chance or through commentary, imitations, parody, or by incorporating news accounts about itself. Internet memes can evolve and spread extremely rapidly, sometimes reaching world-wide popularity within a few days.

Internet memes usually are formed from some social interaction (Rage comic or reaction faces), pop culture reference (Xzibit in "Yo Dawg" or Bear Grylls in "Better drink my own piss"), or situation people often find themselves in (Socially Awkward Penguin or Futurama Fry / Not Sure If X).

Many memes also come from video games (such as the "arrow in the knee" from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim). For researchers it's hard to track down the birthplace of memes due to their viral nature, as well as the high chance of the meme spreading to the major websites nearly instantly.

Their rapid growth and impact has caught the attention of both researchers and industry. Academically, researchers model how they evolve and predict which memes will survive and spread throughout the Web. Commercially, they are used in viral marketing where they are an inexpensive form of mass advertising."
####

NOTE: Of course, if the above thesis was too complicated (or too boring) for you to understand/endure, Timmy's Uncle Bart gives this very simple definition:

"An internet phenomenon or a meme is an image, video, phrase or simply an idea that spreads from one person to another seemingly for no logical reason at all. When people see a meme, no matter how silly it usually is, they find it amusing for one reason or other and forward it to their friends; soon millions of people know about it thanks to how fast the information can spread online and the viral effect. That's the whole doggone ball o'wax, Timmy! Now go get me a root beer, nephew."

####

2) Could you give several examples of MEMES?

Why of course! We'll even vary them in terms of types, styles and sources so that you'll have a good picture. Her are some examples of memes and links to examples of memes. All we aks (in New Yawk) is that if you visit a link, that when you've finished devouring all of the content there that you hit your browser's "BACK" button and return to continue reading this article. Really....we don't ask for much.

http://www.squidoo.com/top-10-internet-memes

http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/subcultures/inception

Memes truly are very simple, easily generalized, broadly applicable words (spelled correctly or inkorekly), pictures, word-embedded pictures and symbols. They are easily transmitted, require minimal translation and were probably created for internet use by the same geniuses who created emoticons. Favicons are a whole different matter.

3) How can I utilize MEMES to build blog and website backlinks and increase traffic?

Now we're getting down to business! Let's address the ways in which you can utilize MEMES to build blog and website backlinks and traffic... and there are quite a few...just insert the search terms: Memes+Increase+Website+Backlinks+Traffic into your Google search engine and you will wind up with a veritable cesspool roiling with imaginative possibilities.

Now, as a special bonus for coming to visit this site, I offer you (with head bowed, revealing male pattern hair loss) a free meme (a #freememe) to experiment with and to propagate:

Mobile Compatibility - Crucial For Marketing

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Your website will be virtually useless within two years if it is not either mobile-accessible or mobile-friendly. Even stodgy old Blogger is now offering its writers an opportunity to create a "mobile-conformed and reformatted" presentation for ease of mobile access.

Mobile phones, pads and tablets are fast replacing PCs and notebooks as the lightweight, portable means of communication and informational access. In the same manner as texting, including IMS and MMS is now in excess of fifteen times more frequent (in terms of incidents of use) than actual telephone conversations [an increase of 50% over the past 12-month period], and is replacing email for most brief communications (with the exceptions of corporate memos and various documents or presentations), consumers and businesspersons alike want complete surfing access on their increasingly-sophisticated mobile equipment. A brief link to an article excerpt follows:
If your website, blog or e-newsletter is not readily available and easily accessible via mobile equipment, the likelihood of your site's effectiveness as a marketing or branding tool will steeply decline, as will its search engine prominence.

There are a host of tools available to make your websites, blog and e-newsletters completely mobile-friendly and accessible -- they do not require a re-tooling of your site; a mere tweak will do, and this 'tweak' is available through a variety of programs and applications. Much of it is freeware.

You Mad Marketers might want to search Google for these types of programs and apps. Four excellent sources for finding these tools are CNET, Softpedia, MajorGeeks and the ever-popular (but under-financed) Wikipedia.

In the immortal words of Roger Daltrey (a philosophy of some note from several decades ago) - "We're Going Mobile!" Please take a look at some of the Related Articles linked below -- they are not only a source of mobile market trend information, but they are also impregnated with references and links to some of the programs and apps that you might want to use.

AVATARS! - Personal Branding Signatures

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

A mini-video avatar, especially a memorable and humorous one, is a wonderful personal branding signature. It is a symbol for who you are and how you think (regardless of how non-mainstream or bizarre) - it is the essential business card, and is every bit as exciting and meaningful as the flag of a sovereign nation.

By way of example, while searching for (i.e., trolling the annals of Google with various search entry word combinations) a possible solution for a bothersome recurring glitch in my overloaded, outdated, treadmill-powered computer, I was blessed to stumble upon the nifty Star Wars-esque avatar of computer expert Mark McGookin, which accompanied his answer to my question.

Depending upon your perspective, you might find it (the avatar) either wacky, ironic, funky (being a RadioDAZZ advocate, I'll go with funky any day) or vaguely obscene. But regardless, it is memorable and mentionable. After all, Mark and his avatar inspired this brief but priceless (I still do not charge) article. And what's more, you've read it.

Every businessperson, artist, professional, entrepreneur, unindicted hedge fund manager, hairstylist and village idiot ( a dying trade - sigh!) must have a Personal Branding Signature - preferably a symbol or a nifty avatar.

Now have a look at the inspired and inspiring avatar of Mark McGookin, a rising star at Bytes.Com - I'll confess that I blew the avatar up from the postage stamp-sized original, and created a bit of resolution distortion, but so much the better:

markmcgookin

Think about how you'd like to be represented on a stamp-sized avatar. Your personal branding signature is as powerful as it is important. This Mad Marketing Tactics tip is dedicated to my newly discovered brother, Hong Chan
in Malaysia (a brilliant photographer), and my wonderful family here in the USA, or what remains of it (the USA, that is) nowadays...

Blog Rank and Authority: Get Yours Up - Proven Methods

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

Blogs carry more credibility than websites. The keys to getting your professional or topical weblog publicized and more widely-read are incredibly simple, if you're serious about blogging for influence or advertising revenues. There are no "miracle cures," and there are no surprises -- just some genuine common sense and perseverance. The ultimate magic is still quality content. Save some money on miracle fixes and fancy machinery -- smarter search engines, trailing a bit behind Humanity (arguably) are looking for original quality content.

The Absolute And Proven Methods To Elevating Your Blog's Visibility And Credibility?

Here's the checklist, handed to you by Douglas E Castle (a conceited lout), TNNWC Management Consulting Services, and a blue-ribbon panel of unproclaimed (and self-proclaimed) blog-ranking authorities assembled by the staff (or is it staph?...hmm) of Mad Marketing Tactics!

Seriously - these absolutely work:
  • original (unique) content,
  • "personality",
  • writing style,
  • utility (as a reference or resource),
  • frequency of posting,
  • quality of posts and content,
  • optimized reader-friendly formatting (making your blog easier to navigate and to use),
  • high-power search engine optimization (SEO tricks involving metatags, keywords, sticky tools, growing a network of inbound links from high PR-ranked sources, using social media hooks to buzz your brand and existence, news releases, submission of your blog and its related RSS feeds to a tremendous number of directories, and other geekery and gadgetry), and
  • visual images (embedded pictures*, slideshows, and other audio-visual 'sensorial grabbers').
If you truly follow all of the pointers above, diligently and consistently, your blog will begin to soar. Blog Rank, a wonderful site and service, describes how the rankings and ratings systems work -- how they will quantitatively show the effects of your efforts.

Blog Rank uses over 20 different factors to rank the blogs in any category. Some of the factors include:RSS membership, incoming links, Compete Alexa, and Technorati ranking, and social sites popularity [Learn more about our ranking logic]
In summary, if you want the best metric results as used as "grading criteria" in Feed Rank, go back to the top of the page and attend to the qualitative work required to produce those results. It works, and it can easily work for you.

    Douglas E Castle

p.s. A network of blogs is just like a virtual media empire. It is one of the best tools for promotion, publicity, branding, and, of course, Marketing. Build a high-quality network of blogs; you'll find that it's well worth the investment.

Market Domination = Branding + Utility --- Getting There And Staying There.

Share this ARTICLE with your colleagues on LinkedIn .

"To dominate a market and to remain firmly embedded there, it requires a combination of brilliant branding and product or service viability. Branding opens the doors, while demonstrated utility gets clients to purchase, register or sign on." - Douglas E Castle

    Marketing Success Defined

Marketing Success: When your business' product or service 1) becomes a verb ("Let's Google him..."); b) becomes the categorical/ generic term - an EXEMPLAR - ("We need a Facebook-Friendly iPhone access application..."); or c) becomes integrated into ordinary conversation or commerce as a part of the process ("Send it by PayPal and then we'll Skype the client this evening...").

Through the results emerging from a number of TNNWC Market Surveys and Polls, it has been determined that most every emerging entrepreneurial enterprise, or small business at a competitive crossroads would accept the above definition as being the culmination of a successful marketing effort.

To dominate any industry, however, requires not only great branding (supported by brilliant buzzicology, news releases, advertising and the like) --- it requires that your company's product or service fill either a common need amongst a giant population (i.e. a horizontal field), or address a very specialized, technical need (i.e., vertical field) amongst a limited number of very wealthy recurring purchasers or long-term buyers in a monopolistic industry.

Most emerging enterprises and small businesses prefer to target a share of a large and growing horizontal market.

Point To Remember: With the exception of the high-end fashion or "conspicuous consumption" ("Veblen Effect") audiences, your brand will give you the audience and the opportunity to dominate; but it is your utility that will keep you in the game and ultimately make your name.

Whatever it is that you choose to market, it should be seen by your audience as very useful (filling a need), reasonably simple to use (and to describe or explain) and as a necessity instead of an option.

    Faithfully,

    Douglas E Castle
